The pandemic isn’t doing parents a favor when it comes to their children’s chores. As the kids are staying home for longer periods of time, their rooms start to pile high with debris. Their routine is thrown off, so chores are thrown out the door. How can you get back on track with chores?

Don’t Focus On The Task Itself

Help your kids focus on the time it takes to get the chore done instead of the chores. Tell your kids to work on cleaning their floor for five minutes. From that five minutes, climb to 20 minutes. Show them they don’t have to be overwhelmed to get things done.

Do Chores Together

Be a role model by doing chores alongside your children. Show them that it’s fun to get things done together. You’re creating a team for chores. The kids will get excited to help their team get things done around the house.

Explain Importance Of Chores

Talk to your children about why they need to do chores. Help them realize that they will feel better and your house will be in better order when they clean things up. This will help them understand doing chores if about respect and keeping things tidy. It is important that they don’t have a negative approach to chores.

Have Fun

Make chores fun. Play a game with them or play music while you clean up. Help the kids realize chores are just a part of life. They aren’t something that they need to put on the bottom of the to-do list. They can have fun while cleaning up.

Clear Expectations

Your kids should understand exactly what you expect of them when doing chores. Don’t just tell them to clean their room. Tell them if you want them to dust or just pick things up. They need to understand that being clean and being organized are two totally different things.

It’s tough for kids to get excited about chores. Their lives have been turned upside down, so they just want to play. Don’t give up on them. Help them understand why chores are so important to the cleanliness of your house. You can work together to make your house a fresh, happy place.
